Tamil Latest Romantic Fantasy Irandam Ulagam

View Movie Video Review

Irandam Ulagam (English: The second world; titled Varna in Telugu) is an upcoming Indian romantic-fantasy film simultaneously produced in Tamil and Telugu  languages by PVP Cinema. The film is directed by Selvaraghavan and stars Arya along with Anushka Shetty. The music is composed by Harris Jayaraj and cinematography is handled by Ramji.
In October 2006, the film was reported to be in planning with Karthi, whose first film was yet to release at the time, and Sandhya being signed on.  The film titled Idhu Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam consequently began its shoot in November 2006 and was produced by R. Ravindran and White Elephants, Selvaraghavan's new production house in collaboration with cinematographer Arvind Krishna and music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja.  Furthermore noted theatre actor, Y. Gee. Mahendra was signed on to play the role of a modern-age father in the film.  However after a brief filming schedule, the film failed to progress and Selvaraghavan, Ravindran and Karthi moved to make another film, Aayirathil Oruvan, in place of it. During the period, the production house White Elephant also collapsed, after Selvaraghavan fell out with both his partners.
The film was relaunched on 7 November 2008 and filming started with a new cast of Dhanush and Andrea Jeremiah in the leading roles. Following his split with his original technical team, Ramji and G. V. Prakash Kumar had taken over the responsibilities of being the cinematographer and music director respectively.  The film was described to be a quick project with Selvaraghavan and Dhanush's sister, Vimalageetha taking up the production reins.  However, filming was stalled for unknown reasons as Selvaraghavan continued with the same team with Aayirathil Oruvan. After a period of little activity the film was announced as shelved in June 2009 due to Selvaraghavan's other commitments.
In August 2009, the film was launched again for the third time with a first schedule planned in Hyderabad and intentions of completing the film within fifty days for a February 2010 release.  Selvaraghavan and Prakash Kumar went to Amsterdam later that month to compose six songs for the film.  However the film was yet again abandoned in October 2009 as Selvaraghavan left to complete Aayirathil Oruvan and begin another film with Vikram and Swati Reddy, which also failed to progress after its first schedule.
The film began shoots for the fourth time on 27 June 2010 with the same cast, but a changed title of Maravan. Filming was held with the lead pair at Jeppiaar Engineering College in Chennai as the film began to progress quickly.  The crew revealed that a difficult ten-day schedule was completed in September 2010, with the team only sleeping four hours per night to complete it.  The title later was changed to Irandam Ulagam and in a turn of events, Yuvan Shankar Raja replaced Prakash Kumar as music composer in the film, with the latter reporting it was due to "money and time issues".  In January 2011, the director revealed that "70 per cent" of the film was over and later that month, the rights of the film were purchased by UTV Motion Pictures.  However, in a sensational turn, Prakash Kumar was assigned again as composer after Yuvan Shankar Raja moved out of the project as he was busy with other commitments and could not give priority to Selvaraghavan, who was in rush to complete the film and move over to his next project, Vishwaroopam.
The film ran into trouble yet again after lead actress Andrea Jeremiah pulled out of the film, citing differences with the director and consequently Selvarghavan moved on to do a film titled Mayakkam Enna featuring Dhanush and Richa Gangopadhyay, who had initially been signed to do another film with the director.  Initially reports suggested that Richa had replaced Andrea but reports that both projects were the same proved to be untrue. Music composer Harris Jayaraj posted on Twitter in May 2011 that he had signed to compose in a Telugu film of the same script to be directed Selvaraghavan featuring Allu Arjun and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles.
Since movies in other languages are typically dubbed in Telugu, Selvaraghavan, in September 2011, had opted to make the film in Tamil instead, and release a dubbed version in Telugu. He had roped in Arya and Anushka Shetty to play the lead roles in the film and he hoped to restart the shoot of the film in October 2011.  Meanwhile, Harris Jayaraj was confirmed to be a part of the project as the music director, again replacing Prakash Kumar.
Filming[edit source | editbeta]
The film shooting had take off on 24 December 2011, in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad.  The next schedule is currently being filmed in Goa, inside the BITS-Pilani, Goa Campus, following which the team will shoot few scenes in Rio de Janeiro and the forests of Brazil.  It is reported that Arya and Anushka will play double roles.  Selvaraghavan reported that the film will have CG scenes.  Some portions were shot in Hyderabad.  The team returned from Georgia after almost two months of continuous shoot under extreme conditions.  The unit after shooting at Ramoji Film City will be moving to the holy town of Srisailam situated in Nallamala Hills of Kurnool district. Some very important scenes crucial for the story will be shot in this last and final schedule. Selvaraghavan said last he will leave the film world after this movie.
